The Shepherd, Mayfair

The Shepherd, Mayfair – Low-Carbon Luxury in the Heart of London

Under previous employment, Mike had the privilege of leading the MEP design for The Shepherd, a landmark redevelopment in Mayfair by CIT Group. Formerly the Park Lane Mews Hotel, this project redefined boutique hospitality through a blend of timeless architecture and modern sustainability.

Situated on Stanhope Row, The Shepherd features 82 luxury hotel rooms and adjacent residences at 36 & 37 Hertford Street. The design, led by Buckley Gray Yeoman and Timothy Shepherd (Shepherd&), celebrates Mayfair’s heritage while introducing contemporary elegance.

The MEP strategy delivered on the Client’s ambition for a low-carbon, all-electric development. The solution eliminated fossil fuels entirely, incorporating high-efficiency heat pumps, smart controls, and a robust electrical infrastructure to support the hotel’s diverse amenities — including the speakeasy-style bar Teddy’s, the all-day brasserie Fayre, and a welcoming lobby café.

The adjacent residences were seamlessly integrated with the hotel’s services, offering guests and residents a unified luxury experience. Throughout the design process, sustainability was a core priority, with careful coordination to preserve the character of the Georgian façades while meeting modern energy performance standards.

The Shepherd is set to open in late 2025, establishing a new benchmark for boutique hospitality in London — where refined design meets low-carbon innovation.
